Joe Biden’s Regrets: Could He Have Beaten Trump?

Joe Biden believes he could’ve beaten Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential election if he had stayed in the race, reports say. The outgoing president, along with some of his aides, has expressed regret about stepping aside.

Biden had dropped out in July, making way for Kamala Harris after his rocky debate performance caused his poll numbers to sink. Despite this, he reportedly doesn’t blame Harris, even though she lost the election to Trump on November 5, failing to secure the popular vote or key swing states.

Some Democrats argue Biden’s delayed decision hurt Harris’s campaign, leaving her with only three months to rally voters. Senator Richard Blumenthal pointed out that Biden’s initial promise was to serve as a “transitional president,” paving the way for a new generation. By running again, many feel he missed that mark.

Biden’s traditional approach to politics also came under fire. Jake Sullivan, his national security adviser, noted that Biden focuses on long-term goals, which don’t always align with the fast pace of modern political cycles.

Biden himself has admitted to a few mistakes. He regrets not putting his name on pandemic relief checks, something Trump had done to gain favor. He also acknowledged his faltering debate performance, calling it a “screw-up.”

Even his choice for attorney general, Merrick Garland, has been a source of frustration. Biden has criticized Garland for being too slow in prosecuting Trump and too aggressive in going after his son, Hunter.

It seems even seasoned leaders have their “what if” moments.
