On January 1, 2025, a terrorist attack took place on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, leaving 15 people dead, including the attacker, Shamsud-Din Jabbar. The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) released body camera footage showing officers responding to the scene.
The footage, obtained by Fox News, shows officers approaching Jabbar’s white Ford-150 truck. The truck had been driven into a crowd on Bourbon Street around 3:15 a.m. Jabbar, who had rented the truck in Houston, fired at the officers from beneath a deployed airbag. The police quickly returned fire. The video, which lasts about 13 seconds, captures the loud sounds of gunfire as officers respond to the attack.
In the press release from NOPD, it was stated that three officers—Sergeant Nigel Daggs and Officers Christian Beyer and Jacobie Jordan—fired back at Jabbar. Jabbar was pronounced dead at the scene. During the incident, Officers Jordan and Rodrigue were injured by gunshots to their thighs. Rodrigue also suffered a shoulder fracture, and both were taken to the hospital but have since been released. After the incident, all officers involved were reassigned to administrative duties.
The video also shows civilians fleeing the gunfire. The attack injured 35 people in total, with 14 civilians losing their lives. The FBI is investigating the attack, and they believe Jabbar was motivated by ISIS extremism.
The officers involved in the shootout are relatively new to the force. Officer Beyer and Officer Jordan have been with NOPD for under two years, while Sergeant Daggs has been with the department for 21 years, and Officer Rodrigue for nine years.
The attack and its aftermath have led to lawsuits from victims, and the Louisiana Attorney General is looking into security lapses. The attack on Bourbon Street is still under investigation as authorities work to understand the full scope of the tragedy.
