In Decatur, Alabama, three teenagers have been arrested after a frightening incident early Sunday morning where gunshots were fired into an empty home on 11th Street SE.
The police rushed to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire and discovered that a house, which was thankfully unoccupied, had been hit by bullets. While officers were on their way, one of them noticed a car speeding through the area. When they tried to stop it, the driver took off, leading to a brief chase that ended at an apartment complex on Central Parkway SW. There, several people jumped out of the car and ran. Two of them didn’t get very far and were caught shortly afterward.
As the investigation unfolded, police found out that three juveniles were behind the shooting. It also turned out that the car they were driving had been reported stolen in Decatur. To make matters worse, officers found two guns in the car after the chase.
One of the teens was charged with shooting into an unoccupied home and possessing a firearm, which minors aren’t allowed to have. He’s now in the Morgan County Jail with a bond set at $15,300. Another teen, who’s also in the Morgan County Jail, was charged with shooting into the home and given a $15,000 bond. Both of them are being charged as adults.
The third juvenile was arrested the following day and is facing the same charge of shooting into an unoccupied dwelling. He’s currently being held at the Tennessee Valley Juvenile Detention Facility.
Police say the case isn’t closed yet, and more charges could be coming as they continue to investigate.
