Teen Love Turns Deadly: The Tragic Case of Ikea Hood’s Final Moments

A heartbreaking trial is underway in Dallas, where an 18-year-old named Trevon Wright is accused of killing his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend, Ikea Hood, last January. The tragedy unfolded at Hood’s family home on Grambling Drive, and the details of the case have left many stunned.

Ikea, a junior at Lancaster High School and a proud member of the Tigerette drill team, had just welcomed her baby girl three weeks before her life was tragically cut short. Her mother, Tequoya Lester, took the stand this week, sharing the painful memories of the moment she found her daughter’s lifeless body in her bedroom.

As photos of the crime scene were shown in court, Lester broke down in tears. “Yeah, that’s the window,” she said, her voice shaking. “I don’t want to see it.”

According to police, the incident occurred on January 7 of last year. Trevon Wright, who was 17 at the time, had been visiting Ikea and the baby. The two had recently ended their relationship after a paternity test revealed that Wright was not the father of her child.

Lester recounted the horrifying moments after hearing a gunshot from Ikea’s locked bedroom. Desperate to reach her daughter, she climbed halfway through the window and found Ikea unresponsive. “I rolled her over; she was lying on her side,” Lester shared, her pain evident.

Authorities say Ikea was shot just a few feet away from her newborn baby. Trevon Wright fled the scene but was later arrested by US Marshals. He now faces a first-degree murder charge.

In court, Wright’s attorney pointed out that no one had seen Wright pull the trigger. While questioning Lester, the defense lawyer asked, “You tried to figure out what happened because you were not in the room when the gun discharged, correct?” Lester replied, “Correct.”

Experts say the emotional testimony from Ikea’s family could have a powerful effect on the jury. Quentin Brogdon, a former president of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, explained, “When a particularly sympathetic victim or family member testifies, it can influence jurors to make decisions they might not otherwise consider.”

For Ikea’s family, the trial marks a painful journey through their darkest memories. “I’m having to relive this all over again,” Lester said, expressing the heartbreak of revisiting that tragic day.

The trial continues, as the court seeks to uncover the truth behind this devastating loss.
