Tragedy at Peak Performance: How a Trusted Chiropractor Betrayed His Patients’ Trust

A former chiropractor in Fort Collins, Brian Rohrick, has been sentenced to 60 days in jail and will now have to register as a sex offender. Rohrick admitted to sexually assaulting multiple clients and staff members over the past decade. This came after nearly ten women bravely stepped forward to share their experiences of abuse at his clinic, Peak Performance, located off Harmony Road and Oakridge Drive.

One of the victims, Cassiopeia Camara, decided to go public with her story for the first time. She reached out to the media to share what happened when she sought treatment at Peak Performance following a car accident nearly ten years ago. Initially, her sessions seemed normal, but after a few visits, things took a disturbing turn. Camara recounted an incident where Rohrick asked her to wear a gown backward, claiming it was necessary to adjust her shoulder. Instead, she said, he sexually assaulted her during the session.

“As part of my adjustment, my entire chest was groped while he stood next to me with an erection,” she said. “I knew something was wrong in that moment.”

Camara confided in her friends and even her hairdresser about the incident. Eventually, she reported it to the clinic’s business managers, but their response only deepened her pain. “She told me I misunderstood the exam,” Camara recalled, adding that she felt manipulated into doubting her own experience.

The emotional toll from the incident stayed with Camara for years. She found it hard to trust men, especially male doctors, and avoided seeking medical care out of fear. Even routine appointments became so stressful that she insisted on female doctors or took her husband along when she had to see a male physician.

Camara tried to move on with her life and left Colorado. But in 2023, Fort Collins Police Services received another report from a woman who claimed Rohrick had assaulted her at Peak Performance. Investigators soon discovered more allegations. According to court records, one of Rohrick’s employees told police he had raped her in an exam room multiple times. When she confronted him, he allegedly increased her hourly pay from $13 to $20 to silence her.

As the case gained traction, police used social media to ask other potential victims to come forward. That’s when Camara, now living in another state, learned about the investigation through her former hairdresser. Seeing the post stirred up a mix of emotions—relief that she wasn’t alone, guilt for not reporting it sooner, and anger that more women had been harmed.

In court, Judge Sarah Cure expressed concern that Rohrick had continued to assault women even after knowing one of them had spoken out. “You used your position of power and trust to fulfill your sexual desires,” the judge said. “That is deplorable.”

Rohrick pleaded guilty to felony charges as part of a plea deal. The judge sentenced him to either 90 days of work release or 60 days of jail time. After consulting with his wife and neighbor, the only two people there to support him, Rohrick chose the 60-day sentence. He will also have to register as a sex offender, undergo strict probation, and avoid contact with minors other than his own children.

When given a chance to address the court, Rohrick offered a brief apology, saying, “I know I don’t deserve forgiveness, and I can’t undo the damage. I will spend the rest of my life working to make amends.”

Camara, the only victim who spoke in court, found strength in sharing her story. She said seeing Rohrick handcuffed and taken to jail was a small comfort, knowing he could no longer harm vulnerable patients. “The only bit of relief I felt was standing here, speaking for the eight other women who couldn’t share their stories. I hope someone watching this knows they’re not alone and that they can stand up for themselves.”

Her words reflected not just her own journey of healing but also a message of hope and empowerment for others who have experienced similar trauma.
