Illegal Drifting Chaos: Three Injured as Stunt Turns Tragic in Morrow

In Morrow, Georgia, an illegal drifting event turned dangerous at Southlake, leaving three people injured. Fortunately, authorities have confirmed that no lives were lost, but it was a close call. The chaotic scene unfolded behind the Thunder Tower West Harley-Davidson Store in a spot known as the lower pit. Between 50 and 100 spectators had gathered there to watch drivers perform risky stunts on snow and ice.

Major Mark Woodall from the Morrow Police Department explained that the drifting involved cars spinning in circles, burning rubber, and creating clouds of tire smoke. He emphasized that this type of activity is illegal unless it’s done at an organized event with proper safety measures in place. He added that events like these need security and medical teams on standby to ensure everyone’s safety—something that was clearly missing in this case.

The incident was reported to Clayton County 911 just before 5 p.m. Eyewitnesses said that a vehicle lost control and struck three people, including one bystander who was seriously injured. Emergency medical services quickly arrived, and the most seriously hurt victim was rushed to Grady Hospital for treatment. Thankfully, the other two people suffered less severe injuries.

Adding to the chaos, the driver responsible for the accident fled the scene, leaving authorities to track him down. However, the police are confident they’ll catch him soon. Major Woodall revealed that plenty of videos from social media are already under review, giving investigators strong leads. “There’s just too much social media and too many cameras out there,” he said. The suspect, who is believed to have been driving a Mustang with visible damage to its front and rear fenders, could face a long list of charges. These include illegal drifting, reckless conduct, hit-and-run, and failing to offer help to the injured.

While the crowd came looking for thrills, this incident is a stark reminder of how dangerous and unpredictable illegal activities like this can be. Police are urging the public to avoid such gatherings and report similar events to prevent future accidents.
