A late-night drive in Gwinnett County took a dangerous turn when police caught a Gainesville woman driving on the wrong side of the road. The alarming incident happened in the early hours of January 12, near Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Nelson Brogdon Boulevard.
It all started around 2:45 a.m. when a Gwinnett County police officer, Sgt. Kingsley, noticed a car heading straight toward him on the wrong side of the street. The driver, later identified as 27-year-old Yuris Garcia Galvez, made a U-turn directly in front of Kingsley’s patrol car and kept driving the wrong way.
Kingsley quickly turned on his sirens and tried to stop the car, but Galvez didn’t pull over. Instead, she kept going, forcing the officer to act fast. Using a PIT maneuver—a technique where the officer nudges the car to spin it around—Kingsley was able to bring the chase to an end safely.
Once the car was stopped, Kingsley performed a breathalyzer test on Galvez. It didn’t take long for officers to determine she was under the influence. Galvez was arrested on the spot and taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.
She now faces serious charges, including driving under the influence (DUI), driving on the wrong side of the road, and fleeing from police. As of now, it’s unclear if she has been released on bond.
This close call serves as a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong when someone gets behind the wheel while impaired. Thanks to the quick actions of Sgt. Kingsley, no one was hurt during the incident.
