Dolton Man Arrested and Charged in Deadly Englewood Shooting

In a tragic turn of events, a Dolton man has been charged with murder following a deadly shooting in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood last November.

The incident unfolded on the evening of November 6, when 34-year-old Mardy Williams got into a heated argument with two others around 9:20 p.m. on South Ashland Avenue. During the argument, Williams allegedly opened fire, striking a 36-year-old man, Benjamin Cruz, twice in the chest.

Cruz was quickly rushed to the University of Chicago Hospital but sadly didn’t survive the injuries. He was later pronounced dead. After several months of investigation, Williams was arrested on Monday in the Gresham neighborhood and has now been charged with first-degree murder.
