“The President’s pick for Secretary of Defense, Mr. Hegseth, has impressive academic credentials, conducted himself exceptionally well during the hearings, and has an admirable record of military service,” Cassidy stated. “He assured me he’ll build a strong team around him. I’ll be voting for his confirmation.”
Rising Republican Support
Hegseth’s nomination is picking up steam among GOP senators. Notably, Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, who had voiced earlier reservations, appears to be leaning in favor of his appointment. Meanwhile, Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., offered glowing praise after Hegseth’s performance at the hearing.
“They tried to shake him, throwing out all these anonymous allegations,” Tuberville said. “But Hegseth had a solid response to every single one. He passed with flying colors.”
