Investigation Underway After Stabbing Outside Cape Girardeau Sam’s Club
A stabbing incident outside a Cape Girardeau grocery store is under investigation following an altercation on Friday, January 17. The Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to a call around 3:30 p.m. reporting a potential shooting at the Sam’s Club located off South Kingshighway.
According to Patrolman Bobby Newton, witnesses told law enforcement that a male individual exited a vehicle and claimed he had been shot. After making the statement, the man reentered the vehicle, which promptly drove away from the scene.
Cape Girardeau officers quickly located the vehicle in question, which contained both the victim and the suspect. Upon investigation, authorities discovered that the victim had sustained a non-life-threatening stab wound, not a gunshot injury as initially reported. The wound was consistent with being caused by a knife, and not a firearm.
Further details revealed that both the victim and the suspect are juveniles, although their identities have not been released. Due to the involvement of minors, the investigation has been handed over to juvenile authorities.
At this time, the circumstances leading up to the stabbing remain unclear, and police have not disclosed whether the incident was the result of an argument or a random act of violence. The Cape Girardeau Police Department is continuing to investigate the event, and the public is encouraged to come forward with any additional information that could aid in the case.
The incident marks another troubling event in Cape Girardeau, though authorities have reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the safety of the community. As the investigation unfolds, more details will be provided by the First Alert News team.
