Hobbs, New Mexico – A routine traffic stop west of Hobbs on US Highway 62 turned into a major drug bust on Sunday when deputies from the Gaines County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a car driven by Gareth Williams with Debbie Garcia as a passenger.
What started as a regular stop quickly escalated when officers found enough reason to search the vehicle. During their search, deputies uncovered 167 grams of methamphetamine and 108 hydrocodone pills hidden inside.
Both Williams and Garcia were arrested and taken to the Gaines County Jail. Williams now faces serious charges, including manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, fraudulent use of identifying information, and possession of a dangerous drug. His bond has been set at a hefty $105,000.
Garcia is also facing charges for manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance, as well as possession of a dangerous drug. In addition, authorities discovered she had an outstanding warrant from Lea County, leading to her arrest on those grounds as well.
This incident highlights the diligence of local law enforcement in cracking down on drug trafficking in the area. Deputies are continuing their efforts to ensure the safety of the community by keeping dangerous substances off the streets.
