Jaylen Brown was tasked with a big challenge when he asked to guard Stephen Curry in the Celtics’ game against the Golden State Warriors. Curry, known for his incredible shooting ability and constant movement off the ball, is always a tough matchup. But after a tough overtime loss to the Hawks, Brown wanted to step up and lead by example. Despite the travel fatigue and the tough loss, Brown knew it was important to take on this challenge to help his team get back on track.
The Celtics came out strong against the Warriors, who were missing several key players. Brown’s defensive work on Curry helped, but the game really got away from Golden State when Curry was on the bench. The Celtics used a dominant third quarter to put the game out of reach, outscoring the Warriors 43-24 and cruising to a 125-85 victory.
Curry finished with 18 points, but he struggled from the field, shooting just 6-for-16, including 4-for-12 from beyond the arc. He didn’t play in the fourth quarter, as the game was already decided.
Brown, who was chasing Curry around the court all night, made sure to also contribute on the offensive end. “I just tried to make him work for everything,” Brown said. “When I got a chance to attack, I did, and made the right plays.”
This win was important for the Celtics, especially after their recent struggles. They were able to start their four-game road trip with a strong performance, but they know the key will be consistency. The Celtics have had big wins, but they need to put together more solid performances in a row to keep their momentum going.
“I think it’s becoming clear how impactful Jaylen is on both ends of the floor,” said Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla. “Defending a team like the Warriors, especially their pick-and-roll game, takes effort, and Jaylen was physical and smart throughout the game.”
With this win in the books, the Celtics now head to Los Angeles to face the Clippers and Lakers before wrapping up the road trip in Dallas. They’ll be looking to keep their momentum going and prove they can play consistently at a high level.
