Police officers in the western part of the Denver metro area shot a man on Tuesday who they say was armed. According to a spokesperson from the Lakewood Police Department, the suspect was taken to the hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.
John Romero, from Lakewood Police, shared some details about the incident. He explained that the man, who has a history of fleeing from police, managed to escape earlier that morning when officers tried to arrest him. At that time, they noticed he was carrying a gun.
The search for the suspect went on for hours. By late afternoon, officers found him at an apartment complex near Pierce Street and Colfax Avenue in Lakewood. This spot is close to the well-known Casa Bonita restaurant, a popular landmark in the area.
When the man saw the police, he tried to make a run for it again. However, this time, one or more officers from the Denver Police Department fired their weapons, hitting him. Authorities confirmed that a gun, believed to belong to the suspect, was found at the scene.
The exact details of what happened during the shooting are still being investigated. Several police agencies are working together to examine the crime scene and gather evidence.
Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.
