Powerful Storm Takes Aim at Texas and the South After Drenching California

A powerful storm that drenched Southern California with rain and snow is now on the move, setting its sights on Texas and the South by Wednesday. This system is expected to bring heavy downpours, flash flooding, and even severe storms to parts of the region.

California saw some impressive rainfall totals, with Santa Barbara County leading at 2.23 inches. Los Angeles County recorded 1.62 inches, while Santa Monica saw 1.38 inches. Meanwhile, Los Angeles International Airport and Downtown L.A. received less than an inch.

As the storm heads east, it will strengthen over the southern Plains by Wednesday afternoon and into the night. Areas across central and northern Texas, including Dallas, could see severe thunderstorms. The system will also dump heavy rain from Texas to western Kentucky, affecting cities like Little Rock, Memphis, and Paducah. Some spots could get over 4 inches of rain, raising the risk of flash flooding on Thursday.

But that’s not all—winter weather is ramping up in the Midwest and Northeast. A mix of fast-moving systems and lake-effect snow will bring strong winds and heavy snowfall through Thursday.

Early Tuesday, Syracuse, New York, was hit with a sudden snow squall, cutting visibility to nearly zero. Snow and wind alerts are in place across at least five states from the Midwest to the Northeast.

The worst of the snow and wind is expected from northern Michigan to western Pennsylvania, New York, and northern New England, where some areas could see up to a foot of snow and wind gusts near 60 mph. These intense snow bands could create dangerous whiteout conditions.

Further south and along the I-95 corridor, areas from New York’s Hudson Valley to Connecticut and Massachusetts could see a light dusting to an inch of snow. Even cities like Boston and Hartford may get a wintry coating.

With heavy rain, flooding, and snow on the horizon, travelers and residents in these regions should prepare for changing conditions over the next few days.
