Teen Wanted for Rogers Girl’s Death Arrested in Mexico, Awaiting Extradition to Arkansas

Alejandro Zenon-Reyes, a 17-year-old wanted in connection with the death of 17-year-old Alexus Lien Nguyen, has been arrested in Veracruz, Mexico. Zenon-Reyes is currently being held in Harris County jail in Texas and is awaiting extradition to Arkansas, where he faces a manslaughter charge for Nguyen’s death.

On April 13, 2022, Nguyen was found unresponsive in a vehicle with a head wound in Rogers, Arkansas. Despite efforts to revive her, she was later pronounced dead. Following the incident, Rogers police launched an investigation and determined that the shooting was accidental, leading to the issuance of a warrant for Zenon-Reyes.

In their pursuit of Zenon-Reyes, the U.S. Marshals Service offered a $5,000 reward for any information that would lead to his arrest. The teen was apprehended by Mexican authorities on Friday and deported back to the United States the following day.

Zenon-Reyes’ family members—his parents, Daniel Zenon-Chavez and Rosa Reyes-Zendejas, along with his brother, Giovanny Zenon—were arrested in 2022 on charges of hindering apprehension, as they were believed to have assisted in helping him evade authorities. They have all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In addition, a jury found in favor of Laquita Nguyen, Alexus’ mother, in a lawsuit against Zenon-Reyes and his family, further complicating the legal matters surrounding this tragic case.
