A deadly fire broke out in Deerfield Beach, Florida, on Sunday morning, claiming the life of one man and leaving several others affected. The blaze, which occurred at a house on Northeast 50th Street and 10th Avenue, also resulted in one person being hospitalized and seven residents displaced. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews worked swiftly to contain the flames, which were visible from a neighboring home at around 2 a.m.
Ring surveillance footage from across the street captured the heavy smoke as the fire spread. A dispatcher can be heard in radio transmissions, with a woman frantically reporting the fire and stating that her roommate was still inside. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the deceased man in a bedroom and immediately rushed another individual to the hospital due to a medical condition.
Bryan Sautter, a resident of the house, recounted waking up to the sound of smoke alarms at approximately 2:15 a.m. He opened his door to find the entire house filled with smoke. According to Sautter, the house is divided into multiple units. He said one of his roommates opened another roommate’s door, where flames were already visible. He was uncertain about how the fire spread throughout the house, but it caused extensive damage.
Andre McCray, another resident, was outside when the fire broke out. After hearing his girlfriend’s distressing phone call, he rushed back into the house to try to rescue his roommates. Despite his efforts to extinguish the flames with water from the kitchen and bathroom, the fire continued to rage.
Around 40 firefighters responded to the scene, managing to control the blaze within 20 minutes. However, the house sustained significant damage, rendering it uninhabitable. Volunteers from the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced residents with finding temporary shelter. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
