A Mississippi man has been charged with capital murder in connection with the death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend after allegedly abducting her last month. Authorities say Joshua Demarshall Andrews kidnapped Glynis Jackson from a Nissan plant in Canton, Mississippi, before fatally shooting her on January 27. As she attempted to escape from the vehicle, she was struck by a passing car, leading to her death, according to reports from WTVA, WLBT, and WSAZ.
Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker announced on January 28 that Andrews faces charges of capital murder and illegal possession of a firearm as a felon. Additionally, jail records indicate he has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Jackson’s unborn child, as reported by the Clarion Ledger.
Authorities were alerted to the abduction around 7:30 a.m. on January 27, according to Madison County Sheriff’s spokesman Heath Hall. Reports state that Andrews forced Jackson, a mother of three, into a vehicle and fled the scene. Sheriff Tucker confirmed that Jackson suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Holmes County Sheriff Willie March stated that after being shot, Jackson attempted to escape, but was struck by another vehicle, which ultimately led to her death.
“This is a heinous crime that shocks the conscience of society, and Andrews will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Sheriff Tucker said in a statement.
Following the incident, Andrews surrendered himself to authorities at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, according to reports from WTVA and WSAZ.
It remains unclear whether the driver of the vehicle that struck Jackson will face any charges. Neither Sheriff Tucker nor Sheriff March provided further information regarding the driver’s involvement.
