A man in Missouri, Jeffrey Goedde, 41, turned himself in to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday night, confessing to a horrifying crime. He told officers he had accidentally killed his father, Edward Goedde Jr., 75, after stabbing him around 50 times.
“I made a mistake. I committed a crime, and I want to turn myself in,” he reportedly said, according to the authorities.
Jeffrey explained that his father was “unconscious in the kitchen” of their home in Jefferson County, Missouri, bleeding from his face and back. He admitted he “may have used a kitchen knife and other weapons,” along with his hands, but said he couldn’t remember all the details.
Officers went to their home for a welfare check and had to climb in through a basement window. Inside, they were hit by a strong smell of bleach. They found Edward Goedde Jr. lying face down in the kitchen, lifeless. When Jeffrey was informed of the discovery, he told police, “I couldn’t leave because I accidentally killed someone.” He then requested a lawyer and refused to answer any further questions.
An autopsy revealed the gruesome extent of the attack. Edward Goedde Jr. had about 50 stab wounds, broken bones, and signs of strangulation and blunt force trauma to his head, face, and back. A kitchen knife, suspected to have been used in the attack, was found in a trash can just five feet away from where his body lay.
Jeffrey has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He remains in custody as authorities investigate. A bond review is scheduled for Friday, and his preliminary court hearing is set for January 16.
