A man is in custody after authorities in Williamson County, Illinois, reported that he barricaded himself and a female victim inside a home in Colp on Sunday morning.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call on February 9 regarding an armed male suspect who was allegedly holding a woman against her will inside a residence on the 100 block of Davis Street. The suspect, later identified as Doral C. Berry, was reportedly armed with a knife.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the victim had managed to escape and was waiting outside. However, Berry remained inside the home. Further investigation revealed that Berry had prevented the victim from leaving earlier by slashing the tires of two vehicles on the property with a knife. Authorities also learned that Berry had an outstanding arrest warrant related to dangerous drugs.
Deputies informed Berry that he was under arrest and ordered him to exit the home. However, Berry refused to comply, stating that he would not come out without a search warrant. Law enforcement officers then used their public address system to issue multiple commands for Berry to surrender. After repeated announcements, Berry finally exited the residence and surrendered to authorities at approximately 8:15 a.m.
An hour later, deputies conducted a search of the home, where they located the knife allegedly used in the incident along with additional evidence.
Berry now faces multiple charges, including aggravated unlawful restraint, criminal damage to property, aggravated assault, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Williamson County Jail.
