Two Auburn residents were arrested over the weekend in connection with separate domestic incidents, according to the Auburn Police Department. Authorities took Majel Sheffield, 28, into custody on Saturday, followed by the arrest of Adam Thomas Jr., 23, on Sunday.
Police responded to a call from a juvenile reporting a domestic dispute between their mother and her boyfriend. Upon arrival, officers encountered Sheffield and determined that he had engaged in a physical altercation with a male victim before allegedly choking a juvenile. Sheffield was arrested and charged with second-degree strangulation, a Class D felony, as well as endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor.
The following day, officers responded to a separate incident involving a female caller who reported being punched in the face and requested medical assistance. The suspect, later identified as Adam Thomas Jr., had fled the scene but was located at the Cayuga Inn at the Finger Lakes. He was arrested and charged with third-degree assault, a Class A misdemeanor. Additionally, Thomas was charged with aggravated criminal contempt, a Class D felony, for allegedly violating an order of protection. He also faced an endangering the welfare of a child charge, a Class A misdemeanor, due to the involvement of an 11-month-old child in the incident.
Following their arrests, both Sheffield and Thomas Jr. were transported to the Cayuga County Jail for arraignment. The Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office recommended that they be held without bail.
