A shooting incident occurred at Main Event, an entertainment center in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, on Saturday, February 8, at approximately 11:51 p.m. local time. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) responded to reports of an “active shooter” at the venue, which offers arcade games, bowling, and dining.
A deputy arrived at the scene within a minute and encountered an armed man in the parking lot. Despite repeated commands to drop his weapon, the man reportedly turned toward the deputy, prompting the officer to fire. The suspect was struck, and although life-saving measures were attempted, he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Inside the venue, deputies discovered a female victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and a foot injury. She was transported to the hospital for treatment. Another individual was also hospitalized due to a non-life-threatening medical issue.
Following an investigation, authorities identified the shooter as a woman who was taken into custody. Her identity has not yet been released. The armed male who was shot outside has also not been identified, and police are still investigating his connection to the shooting inside the establishment.
Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly held a press conference, confirming that “multiple rounds” were fired inside Main Event, which was crowded at the time. He emphasized the dangerous nature of the situation and stated that the presence of a nearby deputy helped prevent further harm.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. The DCSO has not provided additional comments regarding the case.
