A District Court judge in Williamston, North Carolina, has ruled that Brian Smith, a murder suspect, will remain in custody without bond. Smith, 40, made his first court appearance before Judge Keith Mason following his arrest for the fatal shooting of Cleveland Jones. Authorities released 911 calls related to the case, revealing crucial details about the shooting. A caller reported that Jones had been shot multiple times, estimating four to five gunshots. The caller specified the location as Wilson Street near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. During the call, the victim was described as still moving despite suffering several gunshot wounds while lying in the roadway. The caller also indicated that the shooter had returned to a boarding house nearby.
Williamston police confirmed that Smith was a resident of Wilson Street and that the shooting stemmed from a verbal dispute between him and Jones. At the crime scene, law enforcement officers collected evidence from an SUV with Virginia license plates, which was parked near where the shooting occurred.
Smith is scheduled for his next court hearing on February 19th in Williamston. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing.
