A tragic incident in Byron, Wyoming, has left a 7-year-old girl fighting for her life after her mother reportedly shot her four daughters before taking her own life. Authorities say 32-year-old Janelle Blackmer shot her children on Monday afternoon before turning the gun on herself. Three of the children, including 9-year-old Brailey Blackmer and two toddler-aged half-sisters, did not survive. However, 7-year-old Olivia Blackmer miraculously survived and is currently being treated at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Olivia and her older sister Brailey were inseparable, splitting their time between their father and stepmother in Utah and their mother and stepfather in Wyoming. Denise Beatty, a close family friend, described the sisters as joyful and affectionate, always holding hands and sharing a special bond. Their father, Quinn Blackmer, and stepmother, Katelynn Blackmer, are devastated by the loss, focusing their energy on Olivia’s recovery.
Medical professionals say Olivia remains in critical condition, suffering from a gunshot wound that went through her head. She has been placed in a medically induced coma, and doctors are monitoring brain swelling as her condition fluctuates. Despite the severity of her injuries, family members say there have been small but hopeful signs of resilience.
Katelynn Blackmer, Olivia’s stepmother, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers from the community. Family and friends are relying on faith during this difficult time, believing that Brailey is watching over Olivia from heaven.
In response to the tragedy, two GoFundMe campaigns have been launched to support both sides of Olivia’s family. Each has raised over $100,000 to help cover medical expenses and funeral costs.
