A shocking incident unfolded in Vernon Hills, Illinois, when a 20-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stabbing her own mother in the head.
Police say the attack happened early Thursday morning, February 13, inside a home on Jackson Court. A 911 call came in around 7 a.m., reporting that a woman had been stabbed by her daughter—and that the suspect had taken off.
Officers rushed to the scene, and within just ten minutes, they found the suspect, Sashary Almanza, about half a mile away. She was taken into custody, and police recovered the kitchen knife they believe was used in the attack.
Almanza is now facing serious charges, including aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. As of Wednesday, February 19, she remains in the Lake County Jail.
Thankfully, her 46-year-old mother survived. She was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where doctors treated her for a stab wound to the head. After receiving medical care, she was released.
Authorities have not shared details on what may have led to the attack, but the case is under investigation.
