Phoenix Mercury guard Natasha Cloud recently took to social media to call out Elon Musk and other billionaires after a last-minute funding bill was passed to prevent a government shutdown.
The drama started when Musk and former President Donald Trump led a conservative push against a bipartisan deal to avoid a shutdown. The bill, which was over 1,500 pages long, aimed to keep government funding at current levels until March 14. But many GOP members were upset about extra measures tacked onto the bill, such as a pay raise for lawmakers, healthcare provisions, and a plan to revamp RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
In the end, the bill was shot down after Trump and Musk pressured lawmakers to pair it with action on the debt limit. The controversy raged on for hours before the House finally passed the bill.
Cloud didn’t hold back her thoughts on the matter. A few days later, she posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “So when y’all gonna tell Elon to go back to Africa?” She also joked, “I’m so glad these billionaires have no idea how the 3 branches of government work… or how a bill gets passed into law. Shoutout to the 38 Republicans who shot the bill down while being threatened & blackmailed.”
Cloud has been vocal about politics before. After Trump’s election, she expressed her concerns about women who supported him, saying, “The privilege of celebrating rn is exactly what’s wrong with us as people. I am truly worried about my fundamental human rights. Racism, misogyny, and hatred of women are so deeply rooted in everything that is America. Until we fix the roots…it will never grow.”
Her posts show she’s not afraid to speak her mind, especially when it comes to issues that affect everyone.
