Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) is not happy with the jokes made about him on “Saturday Night Live” this past weekend.
During his opening monologue, host Martin Short made a comment about Gaetz, saying, “I left my Uber driver waiting, and you know how testy Matt Gaetz can get.” The joke was a quick one, but it didn’t sit well with Gaetz.
Shortly after, Gaetz took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration: “SNL just called me an Uber driver? As an insult?!” he wrote. “It’s a job held by HONEST & HARD-WORKING people. Imagine being so out-of-touch that you insult Uber drivers just to take a swipe at me. Sad!”
Gaetz didn’t stop there. He went on to defend Uber drivers, writing, “Working people are proud people,” and even agreed with someone who said they respected Uber drivers more than “SNL comedians.” He also tweeted, “Uber Drivers > SNL” on Sunday.
It’s not the first time Gaetz has been the target of jokes on “SNL.” The show’s cast has had fun with his name and controversies before. Sarah Sherman has impersonated him recently, and back in 2021, Pete Davidson played Gaetz in a cold open where he joked about Gaetz’s last name sounding like “Bill Gates but with a ‘Z’ at the end” — a cooler version, apparently, for teens.
This time, though, the jokes come amid ongoing investigations into Gaetz. A recent ethics committee report allegedly claims Gaetz paid women for sex, including a 17-year-old girl, and violated state laws on sexual misconduct. The full report is expected to be released soon.
