A man from Fulton County has been arrested following an investigation into alleged sex crimes involving a minor. Authorities report that 56-year-old Duane Buell of Fairview was taken into custody after evidence emerged of his involvement in inappropriate online communication and child pornography.
According to Fairbury Police Detective Tyler Rafferty, who also founded the CHAOS Task Force, the El Paso Police Department obtained a sealed arrest warrant for Buell. The investigation led to his indictment by a Woodford County grand jury on February 6. Authorities determined that Buell had been communicating with an individual he believed to be under the age of 17 and had shared multiple files containing child pornography.
As a result of the investigation, Buell was formally indicted on three counts of possession and distribution of child pornography, along with one count of indecent solicitation of a minor. Law enforcement officials say the case was part of a broader effort to crack down on online child exploitation.
Buell’s arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between multiple agencies, including the El Paso Police Department, the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois State Police, and the U.S. Marshal’s Office. These agencies worked together to track and apprehend the suspect following the findings of the investigation.
Authorities continue to stress the importance of monitoring and investigating online activities that involve potential threats to minors. The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to target individuals who engage in illegal activities involving children. Officials urge parents and guardians to stay vigilant regarding their children’s online interactions and to report any suspicious behavior to the proper authorities.
Further details about Buell’s court proceedings and potential sentencing have not yet been disclosed. Law enforcement officials encourage anyone with relevant information about the case or similar activities to come forward and assist in preventing further instances of child exploitation.
