Texas rapper Ronnie “Lil Ronnie” Smith and his 5-year-old daughter were fatally shot in Forest Hill, Texas, on Monday, March 3, according to reports. Smith, also known as G$ Lil Ronnie, was identified by family members at the scene. Forest Hill police confirmed the deaths of a 30-year-old man and a 5-year-old girl in a news release but did not initially disclose their names.
Authorities responded to a shooting at a car wash, later identified as Slappy’s Express Car Wash, and found Smith’s vehicle riddled with bullets. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, two suspects arrived in a white Kia, exited their vehicle, and approached Smith’s stationary car before opening fire. The suspects quickly fled the scene afterward.
Smith’s aunt, Stella Houston, expressed her disbelief and sorrow, stating she was unaware of anyone who had issues with the rapper. She described him as a good person who focused on his music and family. She questioned why he was targeted, emphasizing that he did not cause trouble. Houston also shared that Smith’s daughter had just celebrated her fifth birthday the day before the shooting.
Smith’s last Instagram post, shared on Valentine’s Day, featured a heartfelt moment with his daughter and her friend. He wrote about how his daughter was saddened when her friend’s father could not attend a school event, so he included her friend in their celebration to lift her spirits.
Forest Hill police have identified one suspect in connection with the shooting and have issued a capital murder warrant. However, they have not publicly disclosed the suspect’s identity. Authorities continue their investigation into the tragic incident.
