A convicted felon in Pitt County is facing charges for illegally possessing a firearm after deputies discovered a loaded ghost gun in his vehicle.
The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Saturday, just before 9:30 p.m., deputies responded to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle at the Dollar General store on Pitt Street in Grimesland. Upon arrival, deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and located a loaded ghost gun hidden inside.
Ghost guns are firearms that do not have serial numbers, making them untraceable. These weapons are often assembled from parts that can be legally purchased but do not require registration, allowing individuals to possess a firearm without the typical tracking methods used by law enforcement.
Deputies identified the driver as 46-year-old Oliver Jackson of Greenville. During their investigation, they determined that Jackson is a convicted felon, which legally prohibits him from possessing firearms. As a result, he was arrested and charged with felony possession of a firearm by a felon, as well as misdemeanor carrying of a concealed gun.
Following his arrest, Jackson was transported to the Pitt County Jail, where he was held on a $50,000 secured bond. He was later released after posting bond.
Law enforcement officials continue to emphasize the dangers posed by ghost guns, as they are often used in criminal activities due to their untraceable nature. Authorities encourage the public to report any suspicious activities to help prevent illegal firearm possession and related crimes in the community.
