Approximately 300 additional soldiers from Fort Campbell are being deployed to the U.S. southern border as of Thursday. This deployment is part of the U.S. Northern Command’s ongoing mission to strengthen border security.
The soldiers, assigned to the 101st Division Sustainment Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), will be stationed at three locations: Fort Huachuca in Arizona, Fort Bliss in Texas, and Joint Base San Antonio in Texas. They will provide logistical and operational support alongside personnel already stationed at the border, working in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection.
Colonel Josh Porter, commander of the 101st Division Sustainment Brigade, emphasized the soldiers’ readiness and the importance of their role in the mission. He noted that their expertise in logistics and support operations would be critical in ensuring the effectiveness of border security efforts. Porter expressed confidence in their professionalism, dedication, and ability to carry out their duties with the highest standards of service to the American people.
The deployment aims to enhance the overall efficiency of border operations, supporting law enforcement agencies in maintaining security and managing logistical challenges. These soldiers will work in various capacities to facilitate smooth coordination between military and federal agencies.
The U.S. military has periodically deployed troops to assist with border security in a support capacity, focusing primarily on surveillance, logistical assistance, and operational coordination rather than direct law enforcement. This latest deployment aligns with previous efforts to reinforce resources at key border locations.
Officials have not specified the exact duration of the deployment, but the soldiers will continue to operate in their assigned roles as part of a broader strategy to strengthen national security at the southern border. Their presence is expected to help streamline operations, improve efficiency, and bolster support for agencies already managing border security efforts.
As the situation at the border remains a focus of national security efforts, the collaboration between the military and federal agencies will continue to play a crucial role in maintaining stability and operational effectiveness in the region.
