The Bronx community is in shock after a heartbreaking and horrifying crime. A man has been accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and hiding her body in a suitcase — and his disturbing behavior has only made things worse.
Police say 46-year-old Junior Perez Diaz was caught on security cameras dragging a red suitcase into an apartment on Morris Avenue. Tragically, that same suitcase was found abandoned on Saw Mill River Parkway on Thursday morning — and inside were the remains of 26-year-old Pamela Alcantara.
When Diaz was escorted out of the 46th Precinct stationhouse on Friday night, the streets were filled with angry and grieving residents. As people shouted their outrage, Diaz showed no signs of regret. Then, in a chilling moment, he appeared to smile while sitting in the back of a police vehicle — a reaction that left onlookers stunned and furious.
Pamela Alcantara had been reported missing on March 2. The last known footage of her showed her entering her Morris Avenue home wearing a black jacket, black pants, and black dress shoes — but she was never seen leaving. According to neighbors, Pamela led a simple life, often going straight from work to church and then back home.
“She would go from work to church and from church to the house,” one neighbor recalled, describing her as a quiet and kind person.
Authorities believe the relationship between Alcantara and Diaz had been on and off for a while. Eventually, Pamela decided to end things for good — a decision that, according to police sources, may have triggered this terrible act.
Although the exact cause of Pamela’s death has not yet been revealed, Diaz has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and kidnapping.
As the investigation continues, the community is left mourning a young woman’s life cut short and demanding justice for Pamela Alcantara.
