A student at East Carolina University has been arrested and is now facing multiple drug-related charges after authorities discovered illegal substances in his dormitory room. Jason Perez, 19, was taken into custody earlier this week by ECU police following an investigation.
Perez is being charged with several offenses, including possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, felony possession of psilocybin mushrooms, and possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana. In addition, he faces charges of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or other place for controlled substances, simple possession of Adderall, simple possession of codeine phosphate, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to arrest warrants, Perez resides in Jones Hall, a dormitory on ECU’s campus. His arrest took place on Tuesday. Authorities have not released details regarding how the investigation began or what led them to search his dorm room. The charges suggest that law enforcement believes there was intent to distribute some of the substances found in his possession.
ECU police have not provided further comments on the ongoing case, and it remains unclear whether Perez has obtained legal representation. University officials have also not made any public statements regarding the arrest or whether disciplinary action will be taken against the student. The case will likely proceed through the court system, where Perez will have the opportunity to respond to the charges.
