Sabastyen Greene turned himself in to law enforcement on Friday afternoon, just after 2 p.m.
The Aiken Department of Public Safety in Aiken County, South Carolina, has been investigating the tragic death of 22-year-old William Lee Mathis Jr., who was shot in September. Officers have now identified Sabastyen Miles Greene, also 22 years old, as the suspect. Arrest warrants have been issued for Greene, charging him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The events leading to this began on September 18, when law enforcement responded to a call near the intersection of Columbia Avenue and Chesterfield Street in Aiken. The call was for a health and safety check. When officers arrived, they found Mathis unconscious, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. According to authorities, Greene tried to rob Mathis during their encounter. The situation escalated into a struggle, and Mathis was shot in the chest.
