Authorities in Alabama are investigating the shooting death of 42-year-old Rosniery Mejia Magaña, who was killed last week in what officials believe may have been an attempted robbery.
Magaña, a father of three, was shot outside his home at the Evergreen Estates mobile home park in Montgomery on Wednesday morning while preparing to leave for work. He was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The shooting is being treated as a homicide, and police are still investigating.
Family members shared that Magaña was shot just inches away from his front door. His relative, Caren Montoya, described him as a kind and caring person. She said the shooter not only took his life but also robbed him of the chance to watch his three daughters grow up and meet his unborn child, as Magaña’s wife was pregnant at the time. Montoya revealed that no one in the family knew about the pregnancy until the day of the shooting.
Magaña and his family had moved to the United States five years ago from Honduras to escape violence in their home country, hoping for a better life. Unfortunately, Magaña became a victim of the same type of violence they were trying to escape. Montoya said the family no longer feels safe in the U.S. and that other family members are afraid to return home.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by the family to help cover the costs of sending Magaña’s body back to Honduras for burial and to support his wife and children. The family expressed their gratitude for any donations, as they navigate this difficult time.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities believe the shooting may have been related to a robbery gone wrong. The family is hoping for justice and support during their difficult time.
