Arizona’s top law enforcement officer, Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes, recently made it clear that she will not back down when it comes to standing up for immigration rights—especially for Dreamers. In a bold statement, Mayes vowed to fight any attempts to create deportation centers or separate families, calling such plans “a nonstarter.”
Mayes passionately defended Dreamers, individuals who came to the U.S. as children and benefit from the DACA program. She emphasized that any federal move to deport them would be a “bright red line” for her. “I will not stand for an attempt to deport them or undermine them,” she said. “Not on our soil.”
She also shared her concerns about mass deportation proposals, saying they could lead to abuses and unfair treatment. While she wants to see violent criminals and cartel members removed from the U.S., she’s firmly against policies that hurt innocent people.
Mayes isn’t alone in her stance. She and other border-state Attorneys General, like Raúl Torrez from New Mexico and Rob Bonta from California, are united in defending due process and individual rights.
Mayes also acknowledged the need to address the fentanyl crisis but emphasized that border security should focus on federal resources for Border Patrol and prosecuting cartel-linked individuals—not deporting innocent families.
In her interview, Mayes made one thing clear: Arizona’s laws and the U.S. Constitution must be respected, and she’s ready to fight for what’s right.
