When rescuers reached the boy, they found him scared, in pain, and unable to climb back up the steep, slippery hill. Using a rope system, the team carefully brought him back to safety, where he was placed on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital. Despite being in serious pain, the boy’s injuries were not life-threatening, and he was reported to be in stable condition.

The rescue unfolded on a day when Atlanta saw unusually harsh winter weather, with temperatures only hitting a chilly high of 35 degrees—nearly 20 degrees colder than usual. Snow and ice caused havoc across the city, leading to hundreds of car accidents as roads turned dangerously slick.

The Atlanta Police Department praised the teamwork and dedication of first responders who braved the elements to ensure the boy’s safety. “No matter the weather, when our community needs help, we answer the call,” they said in a statement.
