Police in Ohio are searching for suspects after a 19-year-old woman said she was attacked, kidnapped, and robbed while being held against her will in a basement. This happened just after midnight on Friday, December 27, at a house on Beardsley Street in Akron.
Captain Michael Miller of the Akron Police Department told local news station WOIO that the woman was tricked into going to the house by people she thought were her friends. Once she arrived, three people held her captive and attacked her. Miller expressed how upsetting and humiliating the attack must have been for the victim.
The woman managed to escape from the house and ran out into the street, still naked. She found help when a good samaritan saw her walking down the street. The person pulled over, picked her up, and called the police. They then met with the police at a nearby gas station. The samaritan told the dispatcher, “I just picked up a young lady. She was walking down the street naked. She said somebody jumped her and robbed her.”
The police praised the samaritan for stepping in to help. Miller commented, “Thank God we have a community out there and people that care enough to step in and give some aid and help.”
Police arrested one of the suspects, 19-year-old Kendill Worthy, who is facing charges related to the attack. The woman suffered injuries to her face and head. Worthy is currently being held at the Summit County Jail with a $100,000 bond. However, two other people are still being searched for in connection with the crime. Police believe there may be more people involved in the attack, and they are continuing to investigate.
“We want to hold, in the end, any and everyone responsible,” Captain Miller said.
Worthy appeared in court on Monday for her arraignment and is scheduled to appear before the Summit County Grand Jury soon. The police are working hard to find the other suspects involved and bring them to justice.
