Police are on the hunt for a man connected to the first murder of 2025 in Bridgeport. The tragic incident happened on Lake Street and has left the community shaken.
Officers were called to the 200 block of Lake Street at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday after someone reported a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the torso and hand. He was rushed to the hospital, but sadly, he didn’t survive. He passed away on Sunday morning. The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Steven Vega, a resident of Bridgeport.
According to authorities, the violence started as a fight inside a house on Lake Street. The argument then spilled outside onto the front steps of the single-family home. Police believe this wasn’t a random act but an isolated incident where Vega knew the person who attacked him.
Now, investigators are searching for 47-year-old Nelson Garcia, who is wanted for Vega’s death. Garcia is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. His last known address was also on Lake Street in Bridgeport, and he’s said to frequently visit the North End and West Side neighborhoods of the city.
Police warn that Garcia is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, they urge you to call 911 right away. For anyone who might have information about the case, Detective Elizabeth Santora can be reached at (203) 581-5291.
This heartbreaking incident has shaken the Lake Street community, and police are working hard to bring justice to Steven Vega and his loved ones.
