A couple from Brooklyn landed in serious trouble after they allegedly left their 6-year-old daughter in a freezing car while they went to gamble at a casino in Pennsylvania. The incident happened on December 23 at the Parx Casino in Bensalem, a town just outside Philadelphia.
Security at the casino, along with local police, found the little girl alone in the outdoor parking lot around 11 a.m. that day. The temperature had dropped to a chilling 22 degrees Fahrenheit, way below freezing. The car, which belonged to the parents, Chunyan Wang and To Yeung, was parked outside, and their daughter had been left inside.
Police confirmed that the couple had been inside the casino gambling for about 45 minutes before someone reported seeing the child alone in the car. When officers confronted Wang and Yeung, they admitted the girl was their daughter. Thankfully, the child was found safe and is now being cared for by relatives, according to media reports.
The couple, both 44 years old, were arrested on charges of child endangerment, a serious misdemeanor. They were taken to the Bucks County Jail but were able to post $3,000 bail each on December 24 and were released.
Their actions have sparked outrage, especially since leaving a child alone in such freezing conditions could have been life-threatening. The couple is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on February 6, where they will face the charges against them.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of leaving children unattended, especially in extreme weather conditions. Many are now calling for stricter awareness and enforcement to prevent similar situations in the future.
