A man in Ventura County, California, is facing murder charges after allegedly killing his girlfriend at a hotel, authorities confirmed.
On January 6, around 10:45 p.m., 31-year-old Uriel Gamboa made a chilling call to authorities, claiming he had killed his girlfriend, 24-year-old Aliya Pitts, inside their room at the Palm Garden Hotel in Thousand Oaks. Deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) rushed to the scene and arrived just before 11 p.m., where they discovered Pitts’ lifeless body in the hotel room.
According to the Ventura County Medical Examiner, Pitts died from sharp and blunt force injuries and probable strangulation. Prosecutors have accused Gamboa of using broken glass or shards from a bottle during the attack.
After the incident, Gamboa reportedly inflicted injuries on himself and told authorities he was feeling suicidal, as noted in a statement from the VCSO. Following his initial hospitalization, Gamboa was discharged on January 10 and taken into custody.
On January 14, he faced additional charges, including using a deadly weapon, causing significant bodily harm, and committing an act of extreme violence. Gamboa remains in custody without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on February 10.
Authorities have stated this appears to be an isolated case and assured the public there is no ongoing threat. Investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the tragic incident.
