A wild scene at a New Jersey gas station unfolded as a suspected car thief crawled on all fours before stealing a car right under its owner’s nose.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect climbing out of the backseat of a white BMW at a Red Bank gas station. From there, he crept low to the ground toward a nearby black sedan, where the car’s owner was standing, unaware of what was about to happen.
While the station attendant was finishing up with the gas cap, the suspect carefully moved from the front of the car to the driver’s side. Then, in a split second, he hopped into the sedan and started the engine. The owner, realizing what was happening, tried to stop him but backed off, likely worried the thief might be armed. The entire incident was over in less than 30 seconds.
As the suspect sped away in the stolen car, the white BMW that dropped him off also left the scene. Police are now asking the public for help identifying the thief and locating the vehicle.
