A 25-year-old New Orleans man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday evening in Chalmette, Louisiana. The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect as Jermaine Cole Jr., who resides on the 4900 block of Maid Marion Drive. Cole faces charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Additionally, authorities have issued a warrant for 34-year-old Kasey Severin, who is accused of being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.
The incident took place around 6:40 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, in the 500 block of East Solidell Street. Deputies arrived at the scene following a report of gunfire and discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Bureau quickly identified Cole as the primary suspect in the shooting. Authorities have confirmed that the shooting was an isolated incident involving the suspect and the victim, who were known to each other. At this time, no additional injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
In the aftermath of the shooting, detectives launched a thorough investigation, which led to the identification of the suspect and the issuance of an arrest warrant. While Cole is currently facing serious charges, Severin’s role in the aftermath of the crime has also drawn the attention of law enforcement, with a warrant issued for her on charges of accessory to the crime.
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about Cole’s whereabouts or details about the shooting to come forward. Residents are encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office directly at (504) 271-2501 or to provide tips anonymously through Crimestoppers GNO at (504) 822-1111.
