Chaos in Downtown Sacramento: Teen Critically Injured in Early Morning Shooting

A shooting early Sunday morning in downtown Sacramento left two teenagers injured, sparking an intense police investigation.

It all happened around 3 a.m. near the Holiday Inn at Fourth and J streets, close to the west end of Downtown Commons (DoCo). That’s when the Sacramento Police Department got multiple calls about gunfire and a person lying on the ground.

One of the victims, a 17-year-old boy, was critically injured, while the other, an 18-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Officer Anthony Gamble, a spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department, confirmed that homicide detectives were on the case.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing up to four people running away after the shots were fired. As the investigation unfolded, police arrested two juveniles on suspicion of gun-related charges. Detectives are still working to determine their connection to the shooting and are reviewing surveillance footage to identify any other suspects.

In response to the violence, the Sacramento Police Department announced plans to increase officer presence in the Downtown Commons area, aiming to boost safety and prevent further incidents.
