A driver is facing multiple drug charges after crashing into two Jones County deputy vehicles during a traffic stop, according to Sheriff Matt Wineman. The incident occurred on Monday night at approximately 9:22 p.m. on Highway 70 near Dover Road.
Deputies had stopped a vehicle for an investigation when another vehicle, traveling westbound, crashed into both law enforcement vehicles as well as the car they had initially pulled over. The driver of the second vehicle was identified as Aubrey Sessions of New Bern.
The impact of the crash left one deputy trapped inside their vehicle. Emergency responders worked to free the deputy, who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The injured deputy, along with the other deputy, the driver from the initial traffic stop, and Sessions, were all transported to a hospital for medical evaluation.
During the investigation, deputies discovered drugs on Sessions and her property. Once she was released from the hospital, she was charged with multiple drug-related offenses, including felony possession of cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana under 1.5 ounces, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sessions is currently being held with no bond under a 48-hour hold due to her previous release on prior charges in Craven County.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is conducting a separate investigation into the crash. Authorities have not yet released details on any additional charges related to the collision. Officials urge drivers to remain vigilant and cautious on the roads, particularly in areas where law enforcement is conducting traffic stops.
