A Florida man has been accused of killing a jeweler in a shocking dispute over a $20,000 Rolex watch that he allegedly planned to gift his girlfriend for Christmas, according to authorities.
The suspect, 56-year-old Nenad Milosevich, is now facing a murder charge for the death of 73-year-old Anthony D’Amore. Police say the incident unfolded in Fort Lauderdale, leaving the community stunned just days before Christmas.
It all began on December 23, when Fort Lauderdale police were called to a jewelry business located at 6245 North Federal Highway. They were asked to perform a welfare check on D’Amore after he hadn’t been seen for a few days. With the help of the building manager, officers pried open Suite 323, only to find D’Amore lying lifeless on the floor.
Investigators quickly turned to surveillance footage for clues. The video showed D’Amore arriving at the suite on December 20 with another man, later identified as Milosevich. Both entered the suite together, but only Milosevich was seen leaving hours later. He was carrying a small bag and several large, square-shaped items wrapped in a towel or blanket.
An autopsy revealed that D’Amore had bruises on his neck, back, and head, suggesting he had been attacked. When Milosevich was brought in for questioning, police say he admitted to the crime.
Milosevich reportedly told investigators that he had picked up D’Amore from his home, and the two had dinner before heading to the jewelry business. He explained that he had been making payments to D’Amore for a Rolex watch worth around $20,000, but tensions between the two had escalated. Milosevich claimed he had already paid $16,000 but hadn’t completed the deal. When D’Amore allegedly raised the price and refused to give him the watch or return the money, things turned violent.
According to the police report, Milosevich said the argument got heated, and in a fit of rage, he struck D’Amore in the throat twice. He then pushed him to the floor, climbed on top of him, and choked him until he stopped moving. Milosevich admitted that D’Amore didn’t fight back during the attack.
After realizing what had happened, Milosevich said he collected about 20 pieces of jewelry and a video recorder from the suite. He wrapped the items in a blanket, left the building, and drove off in his Dodge Ram pickup truck. Later, he allegedly dumped the stolen items off a bridge into the water.
Milosevich is currently being held without bond at the Broward Sheriff’s Office jail. The tragic incident has left many in the Fort Lauderdale community grappling with the senseless loss of life during what should have been a joyful holiday season.
