Garland County, Arkansas – Christmas morning took an unexpected turn for the staff at the Garland County Library when they discovered someone had broken into the building.
Library director Adam Webb shared that this was the first time in over three decades that the library had been targeted like this.
“We were all just enjoying our Christmas morning routines when we got the news,” Webb explained. “When we came here, we found the exterior door smashed in, and then the interior door too.”
To make matters worse, the library’s donation box was missing. That box had been set up to collect money for a much-needed library remodel, with generous patrons chipping in to support the project.
“We’d estimate there was about $50 in there,” Webb said. “It’s not a huge amount, but it’s upsetting because it’s part of a community effort to improve this space.”
The break-in has left the library staff feeling shaken. “It’s unsettling,” Webb admitted. “Having your space broken into feels like such a violation.”
Visitors to the library are also feeling uneasy about the incident. Kelly Brezonick, a regular guest, shared her concerns. “It’s scary to think someone could just come in and take what people have worked so hard to raise for the renovation.”
As of now, Hot Springs police are investigating the incident, but no suspects have been identified or arrested. The library staff and the community are hoping for answers soon.
