A fugitive who escaped from the Craven County jail in North Carolina has been recaptured after two weeks on the run. Authorities confirmed that John Nigh was apprehended around 4:30 p.m. by deputies in Pamlico County. According to officials, Nigh was taken into custody without incident.
Nigh had initially escaped from the Craven County jail on January 26th. Investigators say he managed to flee with the assistance of his cellmates by removing ceiling grating, entering a utility ceiling chase, and accessing the roof through ventilation housing. His escape prompted an extensive manhunt across multiple counties.
Before his escape, Nigh had been in custody since last summer following his arrest in Onslow County. Authorities say he was being held on serious charges, including firing two gunshots at three deputies who attempted to arrest him at a residence in the Hubert area.
Following his capture, Nigh has been placed under a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. Craven County deputies have announced that additional details regarding his arrest will be provided in a news briefing tomorrow morning.
