In an impressive joint effort, local and federal authorities in Mazatlán managed to rescue two people who had been held captive and arrested five men involved in illegal activities. This happened in the area of Tecomate de la Noria during routine security patrols.
The operation involved a powerhouse of agencies, including the Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of the Navy, the Attorney General’s Office, the National Guard, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and the State Public Security Secretariat. While patrolling the area, the team spotted a property where several individuals were seen carrying long firearms. Sensing something was off, they decided to investigate further.
Their instincts were right. Upon entering the property, authorities not only found the five armed men but also stumbled upon a shocking arsenal. They seized 15 long firearms, 110 magazines, nearly 7,000 cartridges, a grenade launcher, three grenades, and tactical gear. On top of that, they confiscated radio communication devices, a bag of marijuana, four bags of a white powdery substance, and six vehicles, three of which were armored.
Amid all this, two men who had been held against their will were discovered on the premises. Thankfully, they were rescued and provided with assistance, including guidance on how to file complaints about what had happened to them.
This operation is a reminder of how critical these patrols are in keeping communities safer and tackling organized crime. The authorities’ swift action not only stopped a potential threat but also gave two individuals their freedom back.
