A tragic hit-and-run crash in Detroit has left the community mourning the loss of a dedicated police officer. Officer Cameron Richardson, who had served with the Detroit Police Department for just a year, was killed in a rollover accident shortly after finishing his shift. The incident happened just after midnight on January 5.
According to Interim Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison, witnesses shared that the crash occurred when a white van attempted to make a left turn in front of Officer Richardson’s Jeep. The van struck his vehicle, causing it to flip over. Sadly, Officer Richardson didn’t survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the white van fled, leaving the crash site behind. However, police quickly located the van a short distance away. As part of their investigation, officers executed two search warrants and detained two people who were inside the van at the time of the crash. Authorities identified the suspected driver as a 28-year-old man.
This heartbreaking incident has shaken the Detroit Police Department and the local community. Officer Richardson was not only a dedicated officer but also a father, leaving behind two young daughters who will undoubtedly miss him dearly.
The investigation continues as the police work to bring justice for Officer Richardson and his family. This loss is a sobering reminder of the dangers officers face even outside of their duties.
