Devastating Winter Storm: 50,000 Power Outages in Georgia – Track Here

Winter weather in Georgia on Tuesday, January 21, 2024, caused nearly 50,000 power outages across the state. As of Wednesday morning, 48,997 outages were reported in more than 60 counties, with the most severe outages in Glynn County, located on the southeastern coast.

The total number of outages represents just 1% of Georgia’s 5.1 million power customers, but the impact has been widespread, especially in certain areas. Glynn County, with 29,916 outages, saw the most significant disruption. Other counties with large numbers of outages include Camden County (10,529), Charlton County (3,135), and McIntosh County (2,200).

This winter storm brought snow to parts of Georgia, including downtown Athens, which had not seen snow in years. The snow, along with polar winds, led to the power outages. Athens experienced snowfall for the second time this winter, with snow falling on Tuesday and causing some disruption in the area.
